Charles Lee (Nick) Nickel, age 89, of Carlisle, entered his Heavenly home on June 12, 2017 at Chapel Pointe at Carlisle.
He was born June 20, 1927 in Kerrsville to the late Charles F. and Florence Rebecca Jane (Stoner) Nickel and was the widower of Betty Elizabeth (Golden) Nickel who passed December 31, 2016. They had been married for 68 years.
Charlie served his country in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a superintendent at Reisinger Bros., Construction Co. of Carlisle until it closed. He then worked for Van Allen Auto for several years. But Nick is probably best known for owning Nick’s Gun Shop in Churchtown for 40 years. He was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church, Carlisle. He was a loving Christian husband to his wife Betty and father to daughter Sandra. Charlie was a hard worker, loved hunting, fishing and had a private pilot’s license.
He is survived by: daughter, Sandra E. (husband George) Orner; grandson, Jeffrey (wife Michele) Orner; two great-grandsons, Brandon and Shawn Orner; and two sisters, Joy Miller and Peggy Keller. In addition to his parents and wife, Charles was preceded in death by: three sisters, Alverta Markel, Catherine Myers and Delores Griffie and a brother, William Nickel.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Grace Baptist Church, 777 W. North Street, Carlisle, PA with Pastor Craig Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. There will not be a viewing or visitation.
