Charles Franklin Light, age 85, formerly of Middletown, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 at the Claremont Nursing & Rehab Center, Carlisle.
He was born November 9, 1932 in Paw Paw, WV to the late Charles W. and Iola P. (Twigg) Light.
Charles honorably served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a coach for the Middletown Area Baseball Association, Olmsted Youth Basketball and was the Secretary of the Boys Club football. He was an avid follower of horseracing, Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers fan and loved the Little League World Series at Williamsport. Charles enjoyed rebuilding old cars, especially Ford Mustangs, fishing at Memorial Lake at Indiantown Gap and going to Ocean City, MD. He was a member of: the American Legion Post 101, Carlisle; VFW, Post 3518, Keyser, WV; and the Disabled American Veterans, Altoona, PA.
He is survived by: his wife of 54 years, Nancy (Rose) Light of Newville; three children, Charles, Jr. (wife Michelle) Light of Mechanicsburg, Wesley (wife Lesa) Light of Elizabethtown and Janey (husband Steve George) Light-George of Newville; a brother, Wendell Light of Akron, OH; eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by two sons, Gerry Light and Courtney F. Light and two brothers, Carroll “Bud” Light and Lloyd Light.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Richard L. Reese officiating. Burial will follow at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the services.
