Charles F. Rossow, M.S., DVM, 87, of Carlisle, died suddenly on Monday, August 17, 2015 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center from complications of his cancer.
He was born in Chicago, IL on August 12, 1928 to the late Fredrick and Agatha J. Lyons Rossow.
Charles retired as a regional veterinarian supervisor from the federal government in the Dept of Agriculture. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of St. Mary's College in Winona, MN. He received his MS degree in microbiology and his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University. Prior to working for the Dept. of Agriculture, Charles had worked for the Ralston Purina Company and Merck. He was a member and former President of the Carlisle Rotary, Chairman of the Carlisle Municipal Authority, an active member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church and a member of the St. Patrick Cemetery Committee. Charles enjoyed playing bridge with his chums and was a coin collector. He loved all types of sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals and Notre Dame football. For Charles, though, his loving family meant the most to him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ruth M. VanDeRostyne Rossow of Carlisle; one son, Michael C. (and wife Amy) Rossow of Carlisle; two daughters, Carol L. (and husband Richard) Stein of Johnstown, CO and Colleen M. Fordham and companion Chris Reitmann of Keene, NH; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Durkin Rossow and his brother, Fred Rossow.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 21, 2015 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Drive, Carlisle, PA with the Very Reverend William C. Forrey officiating. Private interment will be at St. Patrick Cemetery at the convenience of the family will full military honors being provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. There will not be a viewing or visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The St. Vincent DePaul Society, 152 E. Pomfret St. Carlisle, PA 17013.
