Charles A. Brownawell, Sr., 82, of Monroeville, formerly of Delmont, died Thursday, July 30, 2015, at home.
He was born October 10, 1932 in New Bloomfield, Perry County, son of the late Frank and Florence (Blumenschein) Brownawell.
Charles was married to his beloved wife Louise (Cramer) for 54 years until her death in 2008. An honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in Germany during the Korean War. Charles worked for more than 40 years in the tool and die industry, including 20 years at Capitol Products in Mechanicsburg. He retired in 1995 after a two-decade career at Extrusion Die Makers, Murrysville, where he managed quality control. Charles enjoyed traveling with his family, fishing, bowling, boating, and most recently played in a weekly golf league. He meticulously cared for his lawn. Charles was a member of No Walls Ministries Church in New Alexandria.
He is survived by his two children, Charles A. Brownawell, Jr. and his wife, Young, of Monroeville, and Jane Wyatt and her husband, William, of Antrim, N.H. Also surviving are his seven grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, Abigale, Garrett and Christin and her husband, Scott; Melanie and her husband, Scott; Angel and her husband, David; one sister, Jean Bouder of Plainfield; and two great-grandchildren, Marcus and Norah.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; his son, Gary; and seven brothers and sisters.
Friends will be received from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 2015 at the BASH-NIED FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont, PA, 724-468-8381. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 3, 2015 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, PA with his son, the Rev. Charles A. Brownawell, Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens with full military honors provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. There will be a viewing from noon until the time of the services on Monday, August 3, 2015 at the funeral home.
