Carolyn Hoover, 80, of Carlisle, died Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
Born February 23, 1932 in Carlisle, she was a daughter of the late Russell K. and Leora M. Stone Lackey.
She was a graduate of Carlisle High School, Class of 1950. Carolyn also was a 1954 graduate of Penn State University and a 1959 graduate of Millersville University with BS Degrees. She was a teacher in the public schools for 39 years, where she taught Health and Physical Education and Visually Impaired Education. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church; a life member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees; a life member of Penn State Alumni and life member of Cumberland Co Chapter of PASR. Carolyn was awarded Teacher of the Year for the Visually Impaired in 1986.
Surviving are her husband of 44 years, Harvey Hoover of Carlisle; one sister, Barbara Bear of Carlisle; one niece, Amy Abbott of Memphis, TN; one nephew, Jason Bear of Carlisle; grand niece and nephew, Alaina Abbott and Alex Abbott, both of Memphis, TN.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 30, 2012 at Grace United Methodist Church, 45 South West Street, Carlisle with Rev. James E. VanZandt officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 45 South West Street, Carlisle, PA 17013.
