Carol Elaine Zeigler, age 80, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 4, 2018 while on vacation in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
She was born on September 16, 1937 in Chambersburg, PA to the late Roy V. and Edna V. (Clippinger) Mouer. Carol graduated in 1955 from Shippensburg Area High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Shippensburg State Teachers College in 1959. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa educational sorority. Beginning her teaching career in Cumberland Valley School District, she taught many grade levels as an elementary teacher followed by a 6th grade middle school English position and ending her career after 38 years as a 9th grade high school English teacher. As an educator, Carol was a member of National Education Association (NEA), Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA), and Cumberland Valley Education Association (CVEA).
Carol was involved in many groups and organizations. As an active member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, New Kingstown, she enjoyed singing in the church choir and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She took pleasure in lending a hand serving holiday dinners through Project Share. As a former member of St. Matthew United Church of Christ in Carlisle, she and her husband took an active role as Youth Fellowship advisors. For many years, Carol acted as a leader with both Brownie and Junior Girl Scout troops. Her many interests included oil painting, reading, and traveling to all corners of the world with her favorite places being the beaches in both Delaware and Maryland. Every fall during football season, Carol and Don could be found in Happy Valley cheering for their beloved Penn State Nittany Lions.
Family was at the center of her life. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Donald E. Zeigler of Carlisle; two daughters, Robyn B. Strickler (Kevin) of Hellam, PA and Mindy L. James (Curtis) of Shermans Dale, PA; three grandchildren, Patrick D. (fiancée Leigha) and Morgan E. Strickler, and Devin M. Anthony; two step-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren; sister, Nedra J. Lytle of Chambersburg, PA, and several nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 23, 2018 at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 30 W. Main Street, New Kingstown, PA with Pastors Matthew Best and Donald Seiple officiating. Prior to the service, visitation will be held beginning at 10:00 am. Interment will be private at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Four Diamonds (https://www.fourdiamonds.org), or your favorite animal rescue foundation.
