Carl M. Haffly, of Carlisle, passed away Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at UPMC Carlisle Hospital at the age of 86 while surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 15, 1937 to the late Carl and Ethel Haffly. He was husband of the late Vada Armolt Haffly.
Carl worked for many years as a laborer for the former Frog & Switch Manufacturing Company, Carlisle, until his retirement. He also worked for over two years as a patrolman and crossing guard for Carlisle Regional Police.
Carl was a member of the Carlisle Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles #1299 in Carlisle, and American Legion Post 109 in Mechanicsburg. He also served more than 68 years with Cumberland County area fire departments.
He particularly enjoyed Bingo, NASCAR, fishing, and football. He also very much enjoyed covered bridges.
Surviving are a daughter, Tammy Dorsey (Ed), with whom he lived in Carlisle; two stepdaughters Dianne (John) Nelson, of Plainfield Twp; and Cathy (John) Emerick, of Plainfield Twp; two sisters, Georganna Rupp of Carlisle, and Doris Jean Trayor of Hampden Twp; a brother Frank Haffly of Carlisle; a sister-in-law Sarah Wonders, 6 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Sandra Hyser; a brother William Haffly; and a sister, Marleen Grove.
Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 28 at the Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Rd., Carlisle. A viewing will be held beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
