Captain Arthur C. George, (USA Ret.), age 94, of Carlisle, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2017 and went to be with his Blessed Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ at Claremont Nursing & Rehab Center.
He was born October 14, 1922 in Summerdale to the late William F. and Bertha Bell (Baker) George and was the widower of Joyce L. (King) George who passed November 2, 2011.
Arthur graduated from Enola High School in 1940 and enlisted into military service in January 1941. He served in the European Theater during World War II and in Korea during the Korean Conflict. Arthur retired from the United States Army as a Captain after serving his country faithfully and honorably for 20 years. He then retired from the Mechanicsburg Naval Depot after 10 years of service. Arthur also formerly worked at Joe the Motorist’s Friend of Carlisle. He and his wife faithfully attended and served in the Lord’s Church until failed health kept them at home.
He is survived by: two daughters, Lorraine (and husband Jeff) Hileman of Shippensburg and Donna (and husband Richard) McGowan of Newville; eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Arthur was preceded in death by: three sons, Arthur C. Jr., Gary P. and Darryl E. George; his sister, Mabel Jackson; and a brother, David George.
Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at the North Middleton Church of God Cemetery, Carlisle with Rev. James Rogers officiating. There will be no viewing or visitation. Full military honors will be provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard.
