Blanche M. Bousum

April 29, 1925 — February 24, 2017

Blanche M. Bousum, age 91, of Mechanicsburg and formerly of Carlisle and Landisburg, passed away, Friday, February 24, 2017 at the Bridges at Bent Creek.
She was born April 29, 1925 in Oliver Township, Perry County to the late Samuel J. and Ruth P. (Reisinger) Burkepile and was the widow of Joseph D. Bousum.
Blanche was a 1944 graduate of the former Saville Township High School and retired from the former Reeves-Hoffman Crystal Plant, Carlisle. She has also worked at the former C.H. Masland and Sons during World War II as a tent maker. She was a member of the American Business Women's Association and First Lutheran Church, where she was a volunteer for the WELCA group and was a member since 1953. Blanche enjoyed gardening, reading, knitting, crocheting and needlepoint but her family meant the most to her.
She is survived by: two daughters, Ruth E. (and husband John C.) Oakes of Mechanicsburg and Susan M. (and husband Rick J.) Mentzer of Carlisle; one granddaughter, Lisa M. (and husband Ron) Miller; and two great-granddaughters, Alyssa and Erin Miller. In addition to her parents and husband, Blanche was preceded in death by: a daughter, Joan Bower; a sister, Vera Kistler; and two brothers, Harry "Bill" and George Burkepile.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 E. High Street, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Richard G. Lorenz officiating. Burial will follow at Westminster Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
