Betty Lou (Chronister) Walters went to be with the Lord on January 10, 2025, at the age of 88.
She was born in Carlisle on September 5, 1936, the daughter of the late Mervin “Mike” and Margaret “Peg” (Mohler) Chronister.
Betty is survived by her husband of more than 68 years, Kenneth V. Walters; a daughter—Ann (husband Sam) Sharp, of Harrisburg; three sons—Bryon L. (wife Karin) Walters, of Dillsburg; Ronald K. (wife Cyndi) Walters, of Mechanicsburg; and Todd R. (wife Beth) Walters, of Clifton, VA; two sisters—Peggy (husband Rick) Wagner; and Connie (husband Earl) Strausbaugh; grandchildren: Mathew (Lindsay), Megan(Russell), and Sarah; and great-grandchildren: Ben, Claire, Audrey and William and sisters-in-law Berta Chronister and Eleanor “Viki” Chronister.
In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by a son, Douglas K. Walters; brothers Percy (wife Jane-deceased), Norman, Charles “Chuck” (wife Barbara-deceased) and James “Mike” in addition to her sister Nora Hill.
Betty graduated from Carlisle High School in 1954. She was highly devoted to her roles as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Throughout her life she was always there to take care of her immediate and extended family. She provided care for others in various capacities and was known for her kind soul and pleasant demeanor. Her family considered her generous, selfless, and kind. Betty prepared fabulous holiday meals that will be missed by family and friends. All were welcome at Betty’s table. She was particularly known for her cakes and pies often making enough for everyone to take home their favorite dessert. In addition to the attention to her family, Betty worked for the family business, Gold Star Communications, for many years keeping the business organized and running smoothly.
A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on January 23, 2025, at Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA 17013. A memorial service will follow the next morning on January 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Jason Schwartzman officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Betty’s name to the Hospice for All Seasons Foundation, 280 S. Hill Street, Grantville, PA 17028. Betty’s family would like to extend their gratitude to everyone who has provided care to their mother. They would like you to know they will be forever grateful.
