Betty J. “BJ” Rhoades, age 87, died Saturday, August 3, 2024, after having suffered a debilitating stroke.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marlin, her granddaughter, Lisa Silva Monroy (Fernando) and her great grandson, Rennie Triplett.
Betty is survived by her son, Randal (Kathleen) Rhoades of Mechanicsburg, her daughter, Debra Rhoades, of Ivins, Utah, her granddaughter, Lauren (Nathan) McNaughton, and great-grandchildren, Asher McNaughton, Kate McNaughton, Joseph Triplett and Alicia Silva Monroy.
She was a life-long resident of Carlisle, where she graduated from high school, married, raised her family, attended church and worked.
Betty was beloved by both family and friends. Being a person of deep Christian faith, her selfless caring for others was evident in everything she did. She was especially fond of children, and they always seemed to have an immediate bond with her.
Cooking and baking gave her great satisfaction, and everyone looked forward to a meal at “Grandma Betty’s”. Her favorite pastime was watching sports on TV, including football, tennis and Little League World Series baseball.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Monday, August 12, 2024, at Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, Ltd., 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, where the family will greet guests after 10:00 am prior to the service. Interment will follow at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
