Betty Jean Shatto

Betty Jean Shatto, age 89, of Carlisle, PA, wife of the late Richard P. Shatto, passed away at her residence on Thursday, November 16, 2023. She was born in Carlisle, PA on January 31, 1934, to the late Norman L. Neff, Sr., and the late Miriam (Strause) Neff.

Betty was a 1951 graduate of Carlisle High School. She retired from Giant Food Store after 30 years working as a cashier. Betty was a member of First United Church of Christ for over 50 years and oversaw programs for Second Tuesday’ers. Betty was also a member of the Old Bellaire Chapter 375, Order of the Eastern Star, Cumberland-Carlisle AARP Chapter 4377, NARFE Chapter 373, Carlisle and the Ladies of Elks Lodge #578, Carlisle. She enjoyed reading, watching game shows on TV, going out to lunch every Friday with her friend Barb and talking on the phone with her children.

She is survived by her son Robert P. Shatto and his wife Michelle of Dillsburg, PA; daughters Nancy J. Sturm and her husband James of Carlisle, PA and Linda S. Martin of Millerstown, PA. She is also survived by her grandchildren Amber Smith, Derek Shatto, Mike Sturm, Mark Sturm, David Hippert and Timothy Hippert; great grandchildren Bryce Smith, Easton Smith, Chase Sturm, Taylor Sturm, Ryan Sturm and Alyssa Martson and great great grandchildren Carter and Ellison. In addition to her late husband and parents, Betty was preceded in death by her brother Norman L. Neff, Jr. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at the Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Rd., Carlisle, PA 17013. Viewing will be held on Wednesday at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until service time. Interment will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens.
