Barbara J. Johnson

Barbara J. Johnson passed away surrounded by the love of her family on Friday, September 29, 2023. Born in Neelyton, she was the cherished daughter of the late Melvin J. Appleby and Lillian E. Appleby (formerly Whitsel).

Barbara dedicated many years of her life as an LPN at Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where her compassionate nature and innate desire to care for others shone brightly. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a devoted and active member of the West Shore Church of the Brethren in Enola.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and memories with her sister, Audrey Lippert; her two sons, Kevin Johnson (and wife Kelli) of Frederick, MD, and Curtis Johnson (and wife, Shea) of Mt. Holly Springs. Barbara's heart swelled with pride and joy for her three granddaughters, Megan Brgoch (and husband, Morgan), Alyssa Levy, (and husband, Ben) and Kelsey Johnson, and her two grandsons, K.C. Johnson and Karl Johnson. Her three great-grandchildren (Aidan, Brooks and Maddie) were also the light of her life.

Barbara was reunited in death with her beloved husband of 51 years, Clair Johnson, her brothers Robert, Richard and Franklin Appleby, and her cherished daughter, Lorie Kitzmiller.

Funeral services to celebrate Barbara's life will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, October 6, 2023, at Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2020 W Trindle Road, Carlisle, with Pastor Bruce Levy officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband in Letort Cemetery, Carlisle. The family welcomes friends and loved ones for a public viewing from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
