Barbara J. Burkhart

Barbara J. (Vesey) Burkhart, 79, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at her home in Carlisle, PA. She was born July 19, 1939 in Warren, OH, the daughter of Frank L. Vesey and Elizabeth (Francis) Vesey.

Barb is survived by her husband, J. Paul Burkhart, whom she married on March 25, 2009; a daughter, René Wood of Mechanicsburg, PA; two sons, Michael Wood of San Antonio, TX and Thomas Wood of Bungendore, AU; five grandchildren, Kelle, Bryon, Kristen, Elizabeth, and Daniel; and two great-grandchildren, Callahan and Clara. Through her marriage to Paul, she has four step children, Kari Soffel of Bemus Point, NY, Karin Miller of Cheswick, PA, J. Paul Burkhart III of Columbus, OH, and J. Matthew Burkhart of Mayville, NY; fourteen step grandchildren, and two step great-grandchildren.

Barb was a member of the Silver Spring Presbyterian Church where she met Paul. She was an avid quilter and active member of the Church quilters group. She was one of the artists who produced the 275th anniversary quilt for the church. In addition to quilting, Barb enjoyed travel, visiting most of the U.S. and Australia three times. She and Paul spent their summers in Chautauqua, NY, where Barb sang in the Chautauqua Choir and took art classes.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at Silver Spring Presbyterian Church located at 444 Silver Spring Road in Mechanicsburg, PA. Visitation begins at 10:00 am followed by the memorial service at 11:00 am.
