Anita Marguerite (Dick) McKnight, 92, died peacefully at the Brethren Home Community at Cross Keys Village, New Oxford, on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 and now rejoices with her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. She was the wife of Marcus A. McKnight, Jr.
Marguerite was born in Watertown, NY on Bastille Day, July 14, 1922 to the late George and Anita (Favret) Dick. In addition to her husband Mark, she leaves to cherish her memory three children, Marcus McKnight III and his wife Liz, of Carlisle; Michele McKnight Baker and her husband Frank, of Spring Grove; and Marshall McKnight of Princeton Junction, NJ. She was beloved by her six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, including: Matthew and Emily McKnight; Sarah and Norah McKnight; Andrew Baker, Dan Baker and his wife Annie and their daughter Olivia Michele, and a former daughter in law, Laura M. F. McKnight.
Marguerite delighted in being with her family and friends. She relished family vacations, her wooded home in York Township, and reading the newspaper while enjoying a good cup of black coffee. She was a teacher, guidance and career counselor, and spent most of her career of over 42 years with the Dallastown Area School District. Marguerite has a gift for counseling students in crisis and a passion for career education. Her children's courtships were memorably aided by her incomparable apple pie (with ice cream) and homemade hot fudge sauce. She was a longtime baseball fan and rarely missed a broadcasted Orioles game.
She earned a Masters degree from McDaniel College and an AB degree from Smith College. Marguerite and Mark were founding members of Our Saviors Baptist Church and longtime members of the First Baptist Church of York.
