Allen was a Navy veteran of WWII, serving on aircraft carriers in the Pacific Theatre and the Korean Conflict. Later his ship participated in atomic bomb tests in the Pacific. He ended his naval career as an instructor at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. "Chief" Johnstone was honorably retired from the U. S. Navy after twenty-four years. As a civilian he transferred to Mechanicsburg Supply Depot, in charge of the Terrier Missile System.
He was a student of the Bible, Boy Scout leader, Presbyterian deacon, past president of the Scottish Society of Central Pennsylvania and charter member of Clan Johnstone in America. Above all, Allen was a loving husband, great dad and doting grandfather. He was known for his generous hospitality and droll wit. We all loved him and will miss him. We thank Hospice and nursing staff at Forest Park for his care. Allen's body was donated to Lifelegacy Foundation for educational purposes.
