Allan R. Thornburgh, 65, was called home on October 23, 2013 at Hershey Medical Center, following a brave battle with myelofibrosis, multiple myeloma and a recent stem cell transplant. He was born on October 19, 1948 in Springfield, Illinois to Robert and Winifred Thornburgh.
Al graduated from Illinois State University and worked at Firestone in Decatur, Illinois as an organic chemist and head of the analytical lab, and then at Carlisle SynTec Systems in Carlisle, PA, in the total quality management department. Following his career in the rubber industry, Al and his wife Linda owned and operated Mountain Creek Campground in Gardners, PA.
He was just the best. Al was a wonderful, loving husband, dad and grandpa. He helped people without hesitation. Most importantly, Al knew that God was with him throughout his entire life.
Al is survived by Linda, his wife of 44 years, and his two daughters, Jenny (and husband Steve Franklin) and Amy (and husband Scott Gehman), both of Carlisle, and his five grandchildren, Emily, Seth, Becca, Lola and Tommy, who were his pride and joy. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Gail Carlson.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, October 28 at Big Spring United Lutheran Church, 101 Crossroad School Road, Newville, PA 17241. Pastor Jean Kuebler will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:30 pm until 2:00 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be made to Big Spring United Lutheran Church in Newville, PA.
Arrangements are being handled by Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory, 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle.
