Alice Thomas

Alice Thomas age 87, passed away on Tuesday June 6, 2023 at the UPMC Hospital in Carlisle. She was born on May 18, 1936 in Lumberton, NC daughter of the late Hosie and Mary Locklear. she was the fifth of her family's fifteen children.

Alice worked at Poly Clinic Hospital as a nurse’s aide and in the home health industry before her retirement. She enjoyed going to the beach and fishing in the Florida Keys, she was especially proud of her Native American Heritage she was a Lumbee part of the Cherokee tribe. Her love of baking for family and friends with her cookies and everyone knew her as the cookie lady when she lived in Pottsville, PA. where she was a long-time resident. She also enjoyed eating strawberries and going to the casinos, but her favorite times were spending time with her family during the holidays but especially at Christmas and Easter.

Alice will be remembered fondly by her family as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Alice is survived by her husband Robert A. Thomas Sr. of 33 years, her children Charles and (Melanie)Hess, daughter Kimberly and (Joel) Bevan and their 2 children Lauren and Cole. She is also survived by her stepsons Robert Thomas Jr and his wife Eva, Keith Thomas, and Chris Thomas. Her stepdaughters Kim Moseley and Corinne Darnell, her brother Dizzie Dean Locklear and sisters Angeline Locklear Jeanette Locklear and Jean Deese. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Bruce Hess, 2 brothers and her sister Sally Locklear.

A Celebration of Life Service in Honor of Alice will be held on Tuesday June 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory 2020 W. Trindle Rd Carlisle, PA 17013.
