A. Lucille Small, age 86, formerly of Carlisle, died Monday, April 27, 2015 in the Waynesboro Hospital. She was born in Carlisle, PA on June 26, 1928 to the late Earl and Irene Buffington Sutton and was the widower of Donald R. Small who died on January 10, 2003 after 43 years of marriage.
Lucille had retired from the federal government, Department of Defense after working there for 31 years. She was a former charter member of the First United Methodist Church of Carlisle and had been attending the Otterbein Church in Waynesboro where she was living with her son and daughter-in-law, Dirk A. and wife Julie Small. Dirk is a pastor of Otterbein Church in Waynesboro.
While attending First United Methodist Church she was a member of the #7 Sunday School Class, the choir, the prayer shawl ministry and volunteered in the church office for many years. Lucille was a member of AARP, NARFE and the Red Hat Society. Lucille enjoyed knitting, reading and taking bus trips.
She is survived by two sons, Dirk A. Small and wife Julie of Waynesboro, Darryl R. Small and wife Melody of Mechanicsburg, a daughter, Lucinda "Cindy" Wilson and husband Ronald of Boiling Springs, 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis L. and James D. Humphrey, two brothers, Eugene and Marshall Sutton and a sister, June Belmont.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 1, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle, PA with the Reverend John L. Shellenberger officiating. Interment will be at the Westminster Memorial Gardens. There will be a viewing Thursday evening, April 30th at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. and also on Friday, May 1 from 9-10 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, Capital Region Division, 1019 Mumma Road, Wormleysburg, PA 17043.
