Thomas E. Degling, Dmd

Thomas Erwin Degling, DMD, 75 years of age of Carlisle died unexpectedly on Friday, September 27, 2019 at his home with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on December 13, 1943 to the late Dr. Erwin G. and Ruth Glenn Degling.
He was a graduate of Lewisburg Area High School Class of 1961, The Penn State University Class of 1965, and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Dentistry Class of 1968. Tom continued his education with the SUNY Buffalo Orthodontics Program, graduating with the Class of 1970.
Thomas was a retired orthodontist primarily serving families in the Carlisle area. He was an avid outdoorsman, especially hunting and fishing. He enjoyed the summers in Canada where he could salmon fish. In his last years, he valiantly fought cardio-vascular and Parkinson’s Disease complications.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Donna Baker Degling of Carlisle and his daughter, Elizabeth “Liz” Rea and her husband Timothy and their daughters, Allison and Abigail of St. Louis, Missouri. Also surviving is a brother Robert Degling (wife Peggy) of Tampa, Florida. Thomas and Donna were high school sweethearts and were married on June 26, 1965. Thomas honorably served his country as a Captain in the US Army practicing orthodontics stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri during the Vietnam Conflict.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 5, 2019 in the Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA. Officiating will be the Rev. Michael R. Poe. Interment with Military Honors by the Cumberland County Honor Guard will be in the Westminster Memorial Gardens. There will be a viewing at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of services.
