Emily C. Compton, of Carlisle, died in Penn State Health Holy Spirit Medical Center on September 12, 2023 at the age of 72 surrounded by her loving family.
Emily was born on March 12, 1951, in Carlisle, PA to the late James R. Jr. and Marjorie Kester Compton. She graduated from Cumberland Valley High School. She worked for many years as a telephone operator for the former Bell Telephone Company.
Emily was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Carlisle where she served as a deacon for several years. She was known by many for her kindness and giving nature, often delivering hydrangeas to local restaurants and banks as an act of kindness. Emily also enjoyed traveling with friends, puzzles, Rummikub, and reading books.
She is survived by sisters Susan Stecher of Harrisburg; Janet Ivey of Wausau, WI (husband Tom); and Doris Compton of Carlisle. A brother, Jim Compton (wife Marcia) of Boiling Springs also survives her. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her late Aunt Ruth Eppley, who lived with her for many years.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 28 at First Presbyterian Church, 2A North Hanover Street, on the square, Carlisle with the Rev. Anthony Lorenz officiating. A visitation will be held at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment in Westminster Cemetery will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Emily to First Presbyterian Church, 2A North Hanover St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
