Elmer H. Simonton

Elmer H. Simonton, age 90, of Carlisle, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Thornwald Home, Carlisle.
He was born September 7, 1927 in Millerstown, PA to the late Elmer E. and Carrie A. (Facer) Simonton, and was the widower of the late Grace I. (Kirk) Simonton who passed on December 10. 2010.
Elmer retired from British Petroleum in 1988 as a pipeline operator. Prior to moving to Carlisle, Elmer and his family lived in Middleburg, PA where he was the owner of a wholesale poultry and egg business. Elmer had a love for driving which lead him to become a truck driver for various companies prior to moving to Carlisle, PA.
Elmer was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Carlisle. He enjoyed country entertainment and attended may shows. Often times he filled his Suburban with friends and family and drove them to Waynesboro and Perry County where they could enjoy listening to country music shows together. Many times he joined in by playing his harmonica at the jam sessions. He was an avid traveler and when his wife was living they traveled throughout all 48 states in the continental United States.
He is survived by: his son, Lester J. (wife Barbara J.) Simonton of Carlisle; a daughter, Ruth Ann (husband David A.) Wenrich of Carlisle; and granddaughter Michelle A. (husband Charles) Zimmerman. In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Perry F. Simonton.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, December 15, 2017 at First United Church of Christ, 30 N Pitt St, Carlisle, PA 17013, with Reverends Chris and Rachel Schwab officiating. Interment will follow at Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle. A viewing will be held at the church on Friday, December 15, 2017 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services.
