Bettye J. Bond

July 23, 1931 — February 6, 2023

Bettye Bond passed away on February 6, 2023 in Mechanicsburg, PA. She is survived by her husband, Lt. Colonel Gene T. Bond and three sons, Rodney, Michael, and David as well as 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Born to Willie C. Hogue and Mildred Virginia Gibson on July 23, 1931 in Warren, Arkansas, she grew up in Conroe, Texas and met her life-long love at Sam Houston State College, Texas. They married in Conroe on June 27, 1952 and recently celebrated their 70th anniversary.

Beloved wife and mother, she spent her adult life as a military wife and most notably, was totally devoted to her family all the days of her life. They moved to Carlisle in 1968 where she was an elementary school physical education teacher in the 1970's and 80's, not only teaching but mentoring and caring for so many in the Carlisle area over two decades. Bettye enjoyed and developed great skill in both cross-stitching and basket weaving. She had three great passions beyond her devotion to family; she loved gardening and had the most beautiful back yard which was a sanctuary for herself and Gene, especially in the later years of her life. They also loved traveling and spent much time in their retired years criss-crossing the United States in their motorhome. Finally, she spent untold hours over many decades researching and compiling family histories and was especially involved in the Gladney family Association. She touched the lives of so many; she will be sorely missed. The LORD gives, and the LORD takes away. Blessed be the name of the LORD!
